PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the hiring of Chevonne Mansfield as Director of Communications at the American Athletic Conference.
Mansfield will be involved with all aspects of the communications and media relations initiatives for the conference’s 21 sports, with an emphasis on women’s basketball and men’s soccer. She will serve as the media coordinator for the American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship and will be responsible for developing and implementing season-long communication plans in concert with the conference’s overall strategic branding efforts.
“We are pleased to welcome Chevonne to the American Athletic Conference,” said Aresco. “She is very well-respected nationally in the communications field. We know that our staff and our schools will benefit enormously from her valuable experience and wide range of skills.”
Mansfield comes to The American after serving as Assistant Director of Media Relations at the Southeastern Conference since 2011. She had been the SEC’s primary media relations contact for volleyball, swimming and diving, gymnastics and softball and assisted with the administration and operations for a number of conference championships. She has contributed to the editorial direction of the SEC Digital Network as well as the conference’s social and new media platforms.
Mansfield served as Assistant Director of Communications at the Southwestern Athletic Conference from 2010-11 and was Assistant Sports Information Director at Howard University from 2007-10.
Mansfield serves on the board of directors of the College Sports Information Directors of America and is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators social media committee. She was the recipient of the 2011 CoSIDA Rising Star Award as one of the top young communications professionals nationally. She most recently served as a facilitator at the 2013 NCAA Leadership Forum in Providence, where she provided leadership training and development to student-athletes from across the Northeast.
Mansfield is a 2004 graduate of St. John’s University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication arts. She added a master’s degree from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in 2007 while serving as a graduate assistant for sports information and external affairs.
