American Commissioner Accepts Distinguished Graduate Award

PLANTSVILLE, Conn. – The University of Connecticut Law School Alumni Association Inc. presented its 2013 Distinguished Graduate Award to American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco Oct. 29 as part of the organization’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner at the Aqua Turf Club.

Aresco, a 1976 graduate of UConn Law, practiced law in Hartford, Conn., for several years before venturing into sports television and intercollegiate athletics.

Aresco was named to his current position in August of 2012 and has overseen the strategic reinvention of the American Athletic Conference, including the addition of new members, a complete naming and branding process, and the negotiating of media rights agreements that will keep The American at the forefront of intercollegiate athletics.

Before joining the conference, Aresco was Executive Vice President, Programming for CBS Sports. He previously had served in the programming department and as Assistant General Counsel and Counsel at ESPN.

Aresco is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tufts University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and added a master’s degree in international relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, before enrolling at UConn Law School.
