Stewart, Fitzgerald Earn Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for games ending Dec. 22.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Breanna Stewart * 6-4 * So. * F * UConn
Stewart averaged 26.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the floor in a week that included wins at No. 2/2 Duke and over No. 21/20 California in New York City.  The sophomore opened the week with a 24-point, 11-rebound performance against the Blue Devils in the Jimmy V Classic in Durham. Stewart followed that with a career-high tying 29 points versus Cal in the Maggie Dixon Classic. She shot 12-for-18 from the field in only 27 minutes of action and added 10 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Feyonda Fitzgerald * 5-7 * G * Temple
Fitzgerald averaged 20.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the field (21-for-46) in three games for Temple last week. She led the Owls with a career-high 28 points at No. 23 Syracuse and added a career-high five treys from beyond the arc. Fitzgerald fell one rebound shy of a double-double versus Villanova, finishing with 23 points and nine rebounds. She dished out four assists and shot 50 percent from the field (9-for-18) against the Wildcats.

Averaged 23.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for Louisville, had a season-high 30 points in win over No. 11/14 Colorado
 
Keena Mays * 5-7 * Sr. * G * SMU
Had a game-high 32 points in overtime win at North Texas, had 14 points in final 9:11 of the game including OT
 
Dayeesha Hollins * 5-6 * R-Sr. * G * Cincinnati
Scored 25 points in win over Akron; became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points at UC
 
Ariel Hearn * 5-7 * So. * G * Memphis
Averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in an undefeated week for Memphis
 
Alisia Jenkins * 6-1 * So. * F * USF
Had a career-high 15 rebounds vs. Middle Tennessee, broke that record with a 17-rebound effort at College of Charleston
