Wire-To-Wire National Television Highlights Men's Basketball Schedule

All 90 Intraconference Games To Be Carried On National Television

PRINT THE SCHEDULE

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The historic first season of American Athletic Conference basketball is off to a strong start before the conference has played a single game or any of its teams have held a single practice.

Commissioner Mike Aresco announced today that all 90 American Athletic Conference men’s basketball intraconference games will be carried on national television in the 2013-14 season, either by ESPN networks, CBS Sports or CBS Sports Network.

In addition to announcing the dates, times and television designations for the 2013-14 conference schedule, the conference announced a number of nonconference games that will be carried by its national television partners.

“We have one of the best men’s basketball conferences in the nation, and that is reflected in the outstanding exposure our teams will receive on national television through our partnerships with ESPN and CBS Sports,” said Aresco. “This schedule accomplishes several goals. It gives all of our teams a challenging, yet fair, test that will make for an exciting regular season and prepare them for the postseason. It gives our fans the chance to see their favorite teams on a number of national platforms and it gives our television partners some of the best college basketball games in the nation on their national networks.”

Highlighting the announcement is the double round-robin conference schedule, in which each of The American’s 10 teams will play the other nine schools twice.

The American Athletic Conference will feature four teams that reached the 2013 NCAA Championship, including Louisville, which won the national title. Cincinnati, Memphis and Temple joined the Cardinals in the NCAA field, while those schools, along with UCF, UConn and Houston all enjoyed 20-win seasons. The American will be the only league in 2013-14 that features two conference champions from 2013 (Louisville, Memphis), while the conference boasts two of the last three NCAA champions (UConn, Louisville).

Eighty-four of the 90 conference games (93 percent) will feature at least one 20-win team from last year, while 41 league games (46 percent) will be between two 20-win teams.

Twenty conference games will be carried either on ESPN or ESPN2. Twenty more will be seen on ESPNU, with 23 scheduled for ESPNews. CBS Sports will have three games while CBS Sports Network will carry 24. Additionally, at least 34 nonconference games are slated for national telecasts, either on ESPN’s networks or on CBS Sports Network.

The conference season begins with a New Year’s Eve tripleheader on ESPN2 as Louisville visits UCF at 5 p.m. ET, Memphis is at USF at 7, and UConn visits Houston at 9 p.m. New Year’s Day features a doubleheader on ESPNU as SMU visits Cincinnati at 6 p.m., while Temple is at Rutgers at 8 p.m.

Other highlights of the schedule include three visits from ESPN College GameDay. The first two will be Jan. 18, when the crew visits the Palestra in Philadelphia in conjunction with Temple’s game against La Salle, then heads to Connecticut for Louisville’s game against UConn. The other appearance will be Feb. 8 as GameDay visits FedEx Forum for Memphis’ game against Gonzaga.

The American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will take place March 12-15 at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn. The March 12 first-round games and the March 13 quarterfinals will be televised on ESPNU, while the March 14 semifinals will be on ESPN or ESPN2. The March 15 final will be at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.
