Schimmel, Fitzgerald Garner Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for games ending Jan 26.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shoni Schimmel * 5-10 * Sr. * G * Louisville
Schimmel averaged 27.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists for Louisville last week as the Cardinals improved to 8-0 in league play. She finished the week shooting 63.3 percent (19-for-30) from the field and 69.6 percent (16-for-23) from 3-point range. Schimmel hit a school-record nine 3-pointers vs. Memphis and finished with 29 points in 27 minutes of action. She opened up the week with 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a win at Houston. Schimmel went 7-of-11 from beyond the arc versus the Cougars.

Feyonda Fitzgerald * 5-7 * G * Temple
Fitzgerald averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game in two games last week. The freshman led the Owls with a game-high 25 points vs. Rutgers. She set career-highs in field goal shooting with nine makes on 21 attempts and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Against Penn, Fitzgerald had nine points and a career-high six assists while directing the offense.
