In a game that produced 17 lead changes and 14 ties, USF’s finishing kick allowed the Bulls to pull off a 78-71 win against SMU on Tuesday night in American Athletic Conference action.
USF was 26 of 49 from the field (.531) against an SMU squad that was ranked second nationally in field goal defense (.362 entering the game), and the Bulls iced the win by making their last 15 free throws. F Victor Rudd, scored 21 points and surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his career, while F Chris Perry matched his career-high with 18 points for USF. SMU G Nic Moore had 23 points, turning in his fifth game this season with 20 or more points.
After a four-game homestand, Memphis takes to the road to visit UCF (7 p.m. ET, ESPNU) Wednesday night. The Tigers have won eight of their last 10 games and bring a 15-game conference road win streak into the matchup. The Knights are 1-14 all-time against Memphis, with the lone win in 2012.
Rutgers travels down the interstate to Philadelphia, where the Scarlet Knights will face Temple (7 p.m. ET, ESPNews). Rutgers won the previous meeting this season with a 71-66 victory on New Year’s Day. Temple is the only team in Division I to have four players averaging 14 or more points per game, while Rutgers is one of two squads in The American with two players among the league’s top 10 rebounders.
