Stefanie Dolson, UConn
As the unquestioned leader of the top team in the country, UConn center Stefanie Dolson has continued to bolster her reputation as a national power in the paint throughout the first half of her senior season.
Dolson has raked in significant accolades throughout her time in a Husky uniform, and 2013-14 has proved to be no different. To begin the season, she was named Preseason All-Conference, ESPNW Preseason Second Team All-America and was appointed to the Preseason Wade Trophy Watch List. Dolson has met and perhaps surpassed these expectations, averaging 14.1 points per game and leads her squad with 10.1 rebounds per game. She is also the conference’s top defensive rebounder, snagging 116 through 15 games for an average of 7.7 per game. On the national stage, Dolson is one of only nine players in Division I to record a triple-double this season, and is only the second player to do so in UConn women’s basketball history. Her 26 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists on Nov. 20 led UConn to a 114-68 win over Pac-12 foe Oregon.
Perhaps Dolson’s most notable qualities, however, are assets that can’t be measured by numbers. The center was tabbed as a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, and UConn head coach Geno Auriemma has cited Dolson’s charisma as crucial to the Huskies’ success, stating that “she is our leader on the floor, and her personality is what drives our team.”
