Volleyball Recap: UCF Battles Back to Stay Perfect in Conference Play

A battle between the top two teams in the conference standings proved to be a thriller, highlighting Friday’s volleyball action in The American.
 
UCF took its undefeated conference mark on the road for a showdown with Memphis. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the locker room, but the Knights battled back afterwards to force a fifth set. In the decisive frame, Memphis would pull to within 14-13 before UCF put the match away with a kill by Loren Cory. The Knights, who moved to 7-0 in The American and 14-5 overall with the win, had four players with double-digit kills and four with double-digit digs. Oluchi Agomuo had 19 kills and 14 digs for the Tigers in the defeat, as Memphis dropped to 15-6 and 5-2 in The American.
 
Cincinnati trailed 2-1 at home to USF before coming back for a five-set win at Fifth Third Arena. Morgan Allred had 17 kills for the Bearcats, who improved to 5-2 in The American and 13-6 overall. The Bulls received a 15-kill, 21-dig effort from Erin Fairs, falling to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in The American.
 
Tulane defended Devlin Fieldhouse with a five-set triumph over UConn. Tea Juric had 17 kills for the Green Wave, while Sarah Ray had 10 kills and 13 digs, as Tulane improved to 5-14 and 3-4 in The American. UConn received an 18-kill, 12-dig double-double from Devon Maugle, with the Huskies falling to 9-9 and 2-5 in conference play.
 
Temple notched a four-set win on the road at Houston, bettering its conference record to 4-3 (13-6 overall). Tyler Davis hit .326 with 17 kills and 13 digs for the Owls. The Cougars, who fell to 9-10 overall and 1-6 in The American, were led by the fifth-straight 20-kill effort from Kadi Kullerkann.
 
Tulsa picked up its fourth-straight win, evening its conference mark at 4-4 with a sweep of East Carolina. The Golden Hurricane, who improved to 12-7 overall with the win, were led by 13 kills from Valerie El Houssine. The Pirates fell to 9-7 overall and 2-5 in The American in the loss.
