TULSA, Okla. – The host Tulsa Golden Hurricane took home both team titles at the 2014 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted at Mohawk Sports Complex Friday.
On the women’s side, UConn had the top two individual finishers, as Emily Durgin and Lauren Sara finished first and second in the 6K race. Durgin paced the field in 20:29, while Sara finished in 20:32. The Huskies finished second as a team with 67 points behind the host Golden Hurricane, who had five of the top 11 finishers and seven of the top 14 for a team score of 40. Defending individual champion Anne-Marie Blaney of UCF finished third, while defending team champion SMU finished third at 81 points. UCF, USF and Houston finished fourth through sixth, while Memphis, Tulane, East Carolina, Cincinnati and Temple rounded out the field.
The Golden Hurricane were dominant in the men’s 8K, as the host team featured the top three finishers and five of the top nine. Marc Scott led the way in 24:43, with Tim Rackers placing second in 24:49 and Danny Thater finishing third in 24:50. Tulsa tallied a team score of 21, while Cincinnati was the runner-up with 84 points and Houston placed third as a team with 95. UConn, Memphis and Temple placed to the fourth through sixth, with Tulane, East Carolina and USF finishing seventh through ninth.
