STORRS, Conn. - The 2014 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship game has been set following the result of Friday’s semifinal matches. No. 4 seed USF (10-7-2) will take on No. 2 seed Tulsa (11-5-2) on Sunday, Nov. 16 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. The match will be carried live on ESPN3 at Noon ET and will air tape delayed on ESPNU on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Tulsa advanced to the championship game in their first season in the league, while USF looks to defend its title after winning the inaugural American Men’s Soccer Championship last season.
The two teams last met on Oct. 8. Four different players scored a goal for the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa’s 4-3 win over the Bulls at Corbett Stadium. It was a back and forth decision in Tampa as Byron Knowles-Ramirez put the Golden Hurricane on the board first at the 31:15 mark. Tulsa held a 1-0 lead for the next 40 minutes before USF’s Lindo Mfeka evened the score at the 73:26 mark. Edwin Moalosi gave the Bulls the go-ahead goal at 2-1, and Cameron Drackett found the back of the net for Tulsa with 79:06 ticked off the clock to tie the contest at 2-2.
Ray Saari netted a goal in the 82
nd minute and Aymar Sigue scored on a penalty kick to give the Golden Hurricane a two-goal cushion. Lucas Baldin got one back for USF later in the game, but the Bulls wouldn't score again as Tulsa picked up the victory.
Friday’s action at Morrone Stadium saw the Golden Hurricane top No. 3 SMU, 2-0, and USF drawing with No. 1 UConn, 0-0, with the Bulls advancing 2-0 in penalty kicks.
The winner of Sunday's match will receive the league's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
