Three teams from The American are in action Friday, including one looking to keep a perfect record intact and another closing out a back-to-back in Las Vegas.
Memphis fell 71-47 to Baylor in a late-night matchup as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. G Pookie Powell tallied a season-high 13 points to lead the Tigers, who fell to 1-2. Memphis will be back in action Friday night in the third-place game at Orleans Arena, squaring off with Indiana State. The Sycamores will be the second Missouri Valley Conference member Memphis has faced this season, as the Tigers opened the season against defending MVC champion Wichita State.
Cincinnati looks to improve upon its 4-0 mark when the Bearcats meet Middle Tennessee in Niceville, Florida, as part of the Emerald Coast Classic. The two teams met last year at Fifth Third Arena, with Cincinnati shooting 60.7-percent in the second half on its way to a 69-48 win. Both teams feature a new look in 2014-15 though, as the Bearcats have seven newcomers and the Blue Raiders feature nine.
Tulane will try to make it four straight victories when the Green Wave hosts Southeastern Louisiana at Devlin Fieldhouse. Tulane holds a 7-2 all-time advantage over its in-state foe. The Lions are Tulane’s third-consecutive opponent from the state of Louisiana, as the Green Wave has picked up wins over Southern-New Orleans and Southern during its current streak.
