A busy Sunday in The American has six teams in action, beginning with a noon matchup of top-25 teams.
No. 24/22 UConn takes on No. 7/9 Texas at Gampel Pavilion at noon ET on ESPN2. The Huskies are 5-2 all-time against the Longhorns, including a 2-0 mark at Gampel Pavilion.
East Carolina returns home to face Central Connecticut (2 p.m., ESPN3). The Pirates have gone 2-1 at Minges Coliseum this season and hold a 2-1 series lead against the Blue Devils.
Tulane closes a six-game homestand to start the season as the Green Wave hosts Tennessee Tech (2 p.m. ET, ESPN3). Tulane is off to a 4-1 start and have averaged 76.6 points per game thus far, leading The American in scoring. The only previous meeting between Tulane and Tennessee Tech was the Green Wave’s 93-91 double-overtime win in the 1989-90 season.
Temple goes for its second straight win and its fourth straight at the Liacouras Center as the Owls welcome LIU Brooklyn to Philadelphia for a 4 p.m. tip (ESPN3). Temple is 4-0 all-time against the Blackbirds, including a 3-0 mark in Philadelphia.
UCF looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season as the Knights host Bethune-Cookman (6 p.m. ET, ESPN3). UCF, which has been led in scoring by freshmen three times in four games, faces a Wildcat squad that returns four starters from last year.
SMU plays its fourth game in a seven-game homestand as the Mustangs host Monmouth at Moody Coliseum (7 p.m. ET, ESPN3). It will be the first meeting between the schools.
Saturday’s action saw USF improve to 5-1 as the Bulls cruised past Jacksonville, 79-65. G Corey Allen Jr., scored 29 points — the most by a player in The American this season, as the Bulls have five wins through six games for the first time since 2009-10. Cincinnati suffered its first loss of the season as the Bearcats fell to Mississippi in the Emerald Coast Classic, while Tulsa fell on the road to No. 9/10 Wichita State.
