The American Today - East Carolina Victorious Saturday

East Carolina utilized a hot-shooting second half and controlled the glass, en route to a double-digit win over James Madison, highlighting Saturday’s action in The American.
 
The Pirates tallied a 70-58 victory over the Dukes to improve to 5-5 on the year. ECU shot 54.2-percent from the floor in the second half, and held a 38-26 advantage on the boards while scoring 45 of its 70 points in the second stanza. G Terry Whisnant led the Pirates with 24 points and seven rebounds while making four 3-pointers.
 
Cincinnati was outlasted in double overtime by Nebraska, 56-55, as the Bearcats fell to 6-2. G Troy Caupain had 13 points and six assists for the Bearcats, who held the Huskers to just 16 made field goals in 50 minutes of action. F Octavius Ellis had a team-high nine rebounds for Cincinnati.
 
Tulsa dropped an 87-68 decision No. 16/15 Oklahoma at Reynolds Center. G Shaquille Harrison had a team-high 21 points for the Golden Hurricane, which fell to 5-5 in the defeat.
 
Memphis was defeated 73-55 by Oklahoma State at FedEx Forum, dropping the Tigers to 3-4 on the year. Memphis got 38 points from its bench in the contest, including 13 each from Trahson Burrell and Kuran Iverson.
 
UCF fell 54-41 to Florida Atlantic at CFE Arena as the Knights moved to 5-4 on the year. G B.J. Taylor led all scorers with 17 points. F Justin McBride tallied five blocks in the game.
 
Two teams are in action Sunday, beginning with a Philadelphia showdown between Temple and No. 7/7 Villanova. It will be the 89th meeting between the teams, with the 7-0 Wildcats holding a slim 45-43 advantage. G Will Cummings has done a bit of everything for the 6-3 Owls, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals, while ranking sixth nationally in made free throws.
 
UConn hosts Coppin State for the first of seven regular-season games the 3-3 Huskies will host at XL Center in Hartford, the site of the 2015 American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship. UConn has taken all five previous meetings against the Eagles, who enter Sunday’s contest at 1-8.
