Editor’s Note: Heading into the Holiday Season and the end of 2014 we thought it would be nice to look back at some of the great moments from this past fall. We scoured through lots of video footage and came up with our “12 Plays of Christmas”. Every day we will reveal a new play or moment that we consider to be one of our best from the year. The list will end with play number 1 on Christmas Eve.
Day 5 – UConn Women's Basketball
Watch Play
After falling to Stanford in an early-season showdown, UConn’s women’s basketball team looked for someone to rise to the occasion in the Huskies’ next big test against long-time rival Notre Dame in a rematch of last year’s national championship game. A pair of Huskies answered the bell against the Irish, as Morgan Tuck and Kiah Stokes put up stellar performances in the top-five battle in South Bend. After suffering a knee injury that kept her on the bench for most of last season, Tuck stepped up with a career-best 25 points to lead the Huskies to a 76-58 win over the then-No. 2 Irish. In addition to Tuck's standout performance, Stokes chipped in with 18 rebounds and four blocks in just 24 minutes. The Dec. 6 contest was the 17th meeting between the schools since Jan. 16, 2010. UConn holds a 10-7 advantage in the series over that time, including Final Four victories the last two years.
