SMU's Moreira, UCF's Henriquez Earn Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week ending Dec. 21.
 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yanick Moreira • Sr. • C • SMU
Moreira helped SMU to two wins last week as the Mustangs defeated Illinois-Chicago, 67-46, before knocking off Michigan, 62-51, on the road. He averaged 15.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in the two games and shot 68.8 percent from the field (11 of 16). Moreira scored 15 of his game-high 19 points against Michigan in the second half, leading the Mustangs to their sixth straight win and their first road victory of the season. Moreira has averaged 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds this season and ranks second in the American Athletic Conference in field goal percentage (.633).
 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Adonys Henriquez • Fr. • G • UCF
Henriquez led UCF to a 75-70 win against Detroit in the Knights’ only game of last week. He led the team with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a 4-of-6 performance from 3-point range. He added seven rebounds and two steals and shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Henriquez is averaging 11.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for UCF this season and is the Knights’ second-leading scorer as a rookie.

Scored 16 points with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in an 82-62 win at Delaware.

Scored 23 points with seven assists in a 74-70 win against Missouri State.
