The American Today - Four Teams Pick Up Victories Sunday

Four teams from The American were victorious at home Sunday, with UConn, East Carolina, Houston and Temple picking up wins.
 
Temple G Jesse Morgan knocked down five second-half 3-pointers to lead the Owls to a 66-56 win over Delaware State. F Jaylen Bond had 12 points and tied a Liacouras Center record with 18 rebounds. The Owls had 10 blocks as a team, which also matched the arena record. Temple improved to 9-4 in the win.
 
Houston G Jherrod Stiggers tied The American record for made 3-pointers in a game, going 8-of-11 from outside and scoring 26 points in the Cougars’ 80-53 win over Mississippi Valley State. Houston improved to 7-4 in the win.
 
Five UConn players were in double figures in an 81-48 win over in-state foe Central Connecticut as the Huskies improved to 6-4. G Ryan Boatright led all scorers with 18 points while F Kentan Facey tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds. UConn held the visiting Blue Devils to 31.5-percent from the floor.
 
East Carolina was 16-of-22 (72.7-percent) from the floor in the first half in a 71-50 win over UNC Greensboro. G Terry Whisnant had 17 points and six assists to lead the Pirates, who moved to 7-6, securing their fifth-consecutive winning record in the nonconference portion of the schedule.
 
Tulane dropped an 82-57 decision to No. 17/19 St. John’s at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as the Green Wave fell to 9-3. G Jonathan Stark led the Green Wave with 15 points.
 
USF F Chris Perry had 21 points and 11 rebounds, G Anthony Collins added 20 points, but the Bulls were defeated 79-70 by Bowling Green at the Sun Dome. USF dropped to 6-7 in the defeat.
 
SMU is the lone team to play Monday as the Mustangs will host Midwestern State at Moody Coliseum. SMU is 8-3 and riding a six-game winning streak into its nonconference finale, most recently picking up a 62-51 win at Michigan Dec. 20. Midwestern State, located in Wichita Falls, Texas, has made the NCAA Division II tournament in each of the last six seasons.
