PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for games ending Feb. 2.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Keena Mays * 5-7 * Sr. * G * SMU
Mays averaged 27 points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game on 62 percent field goal shooting in an undefeated week for SMU. The senior opened the week with a 24 point, eight assist outing in a win over Cincinnati. She also tied her career-high with six steals. Mays scored 30 points in the weekend finale, including 20 points in the second half, in a come-from-behind win over Temple. She added five assists and shot 9-for-14 shooting from the field.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Tyler Scaife * 5-7 * G * Rutgers
Scaife averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 assists per game last week on 59.3 percent shooting in a 1-1 week for Rutgers. Against No. 5/5 Louisville, the Little Rock, Arkansas native scored a career-high 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Scaife was also a perfect 5-for-5 from free-throw range. She followed that with a 13-point performance against Memphis on Saturday. Scaife dished out five assists vs. the Tigers, one short of her career mark.
