PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the final swimming and diving awards of the regular season, UConn freshman Christine Pedersen was named Female Swimmer of the Week and Louisville junior Caryle Blondell captured Male Swimmer of the Week.
Pedersen took first place as an individual in four races and added a relay title as the Huskies defeated Dartmouth and were edged by Colgate, standing at 4-2 on the season. The freshman captured wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke on both days, with a best time of 57.67 in the 100 and 2:05.49 in the 200. She also swam the opening leg of the 200-yard medley in 27.27 to propel the Huskies to a first place finish in the event.
In a top-ten matchup, Blondell led No. 7 Louisville against No. 8 Indiana as the lone multiple event winner for the Cardinals. The junior had three times that place him in the top 50 fastest in the nation, all in first place swims. Blondell touched the wall in 43.74 in the 100-yard freestyle, 19.93 in the 50-yard freestyle, and swam the third leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay in 42.80 as the Cardinals finished in 2:56.30.

The Huskies topped both Dartmouth and Colgate on the men’s side. Chris Grig had five first place finishes to lead UConn.
Cincinnati fell to Kentucky in their regular season finale.
AROUND THE AMERICAN – WOMEN’S
The Bearcats lost their dual meet with Kentucky on the women’s side as well, with Jackie Keire continuing to star in her freshman season. Keire won two events and currently has the league’s fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (48.52), 200-yard freestyle (48.52), and 500-yard freestyle (4:41.33).
Swimming in their third meet in seven days, Louisville fell to Indiana 175-123.
Houston earned a win against Tulane while falling to LSU and Rice as they concluded their regular season by hosting a quad meet.
SMU was led by three first-place finishes by Nathalie Lindborg as the junior boosted the Mustangs to a 141-96 win over North Texas. They also hosted Oklahoma Baptist in a pre-conference time trial event.
UConn (women) and Rutgers have one more day of competition apiece on Saturday, with UConn hosting the Husky Open and Rutgers welcoming Georgetown and Providence. All other teams are off in preparation for the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Louisville February 19-22.
