Cincinnati trailed by as much as 10 points late in the first half, but rallied back on their home court and held off UConn 63-58. G Sean Kilpatrick had 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, including 17 points in the second half for the Bearcats, who won their 15th straight game and their 18th straight home game.
SMU had five different players in double figures and shot 54 percent for the game in a 75-52 victory over Temple. F Markus Kennedy led the Mustangs with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals to improve to 18-5 and 7-3 in The American.
Saturday’s schedule features three games, with ESPN’s College GameDay providing the backdrop from FedExForum in Memphis.
No. 24/rv Memphis welcomes No. 23/20 Gonzaga at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. Memphis leads the series 5-2 and won the last meeting in 2011. The Bulldogs are 21-3 this season and 11-1 in the West Coast Conference.
Thursday’s two winners match up as Cincinnati is at SMU (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU). The Bearcats’ 15 -game winning streak is at stake against an SMU squad that is 12-0 at home this season. The game features the top two scoring defenses in The American, Cincinnati allows 56.8 points per game, while SMU averages 61.3 points allowed per game.
The third game Saturday sends Rutgers to Florida to face USF (8 p.m. ET, ESPNews). The Scarlet Knights will be looking for their first road victory of the season against a Bulls squad that scored an overtime win against UCF in its last game.
