On the regular season's final day, here are the scenarios for seeding at the upcoming 2014 American Athletic Conference Championship Presented by Reese's Peanut Butter Cups:
-
Seven seeds — including the coveted No. 1 spot — for the first American Athletic Conference Championship will be determined on the final day of the regular season.
-
Louisville and Cincinnati are the two teams in the hunt for the regular-season championship and the top seed at next week’s conference tournament. If both teams win Saturday, then Louisville would be the No. 1 seed if SMU beats Memphis. If Louisville, Cincinnati and Memphis all win Saturday, then a coin flip would determine the top seed.
-
If Louisville and Cincinnati both lose Saturday, then the Cardinals would be the No. 1 seed if SMU beats Memphis, while the Bearcats would be No. 1 if Memphis prevails.
-
If a coin flip is necessary to determine the top seed, it would take place at Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center immediately following the Cardinals’ game against UConn.
-
SMU would win a potential three-way tiebreaker at third place with UConn and Memphis. The Mustangs hold a head-to-head tiebreaker advantage against UConn, but Memphis would win a head-to-head tie with SMU. UConn holds the advantage in a head-to-head tie with Memphis.
-
Further along in the standings, Saturday’s USF-Temple winner will be the No. 8 seed in the tournament, while the loser of that game will be the No. 10 seed.
-
Three seeds have been determined already. Houston will be the No. 6 seed, Rutgers is No. 7 and UCF will be No. 9..
