UNCASVILLE, CONN. – Led by 22 points from senior guard Inga Orekhova, the No. 3 seed USF Bulls took down No. 6 seed Temple 72-44 in Saturday night’s quarterfinal matchup.
The Bulls used 14 first half points from Orekhova and a 12-for-12 overall performance at the free throw line to take a 36-19 lead into the intermission. USF closed the half on a 17-4 run over the final five minutes to hold a 17-point advantage halfway through.
The Owls were unable to build a comeback, as the Bulls built on the lead in the second half, and finished off a 28-point victory.
The Bulls defense locked down the Owls, holding them to 24.1 percent from the field and 0-for-14 from long distance.
USF also held the rebounding edge at 49-35. Orekhova’s 22 points was a game high, while Feyonda Fitzgerald had 20 points for Temple in the losing effort.
USF will move on to the semifinals, where they will face No. 2 seed Louisville at 3 p.m. Sunday.
