SMU Wins 2014 American Men’s Golf Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. –
Behind tournament medalist Bryson Dechambeau’s 7-under 206, the SMU Mustangs had a three-day total of 6-over-par 858 to win the inaugural American Men’s Golf Championship at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.
 
Dechambeau ended with a 2-under-par 68 on Tuesday for SMU. USF's Chase Koepka followed Dechambeau individually and finished as the tournament runner-up at 2-under 211.
 
UCF’s Ricardo Gouveia came in third at 1-under 212, while Robert Geibel (Louisville), Brandon Matthews (Temple), Roman Robledo (Houston) and Austin Smotherman (SMU) all tied for fourth at even-par 213.

The Knights finished second with a three-round 11-over-par total of 863 (283-289-291). Houston was third with a 14-over-par total of 863 (292-286-288) while USF (15-over 867) and Louisville (18-over 870) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

The 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships selections will be announced live on May 5 from 10-11 a.m. ET during Morning Drive, Golf Channel’s daily morning news and lifestyle show.
