The Houston baseball squad concluded a memorable first year in the American Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon as its season came to a close. The Cougars dropped the second game of the Super Regional, 4-0, to Texas and were eliminated from postseason play.
The Cougars were led by 2B Josh Vidales, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Vidales, who was named Most Outstanding Player at The American conference tournament, was 6-for-7 in two Super Regional games. 3B Conor Hollis and C Caleb Barker each had a pair of hits, but Houston could not capitalize and was held scoreless by four Texas hurlers. The Longhorns will make their 35th appearance at the College World Series, the most of any program.
The game concluded a strong season for Houston, which finished the year at 48-18. The Cougars' 48 victories tied the program record for wins in a season, last done in the 2002 season. Houston won the American Athletic Conference tournament title, defeating Louisville in the title game. The Cougars defeated No. 8 national seed LSU to win the Baton Rouge Regional, making the fourth Super Regional appearance and first since 2003.
