UConn's Stewart Tabbed Best Female College Athlete at ESPYs


UConn forward Breanna Stewart was tabbed Best Female College Athlete at the 2014 ESPY awards Wednesday evening in Los Angeles.

Stewart, who averaged 19.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 2013-14 , becomes the first Husky to win the accolade since Maya Moore won three straight from 2009-11. The 6-4 forward was tabbed as the AP, USBWA, and espnW Player of the Year following UConn's perfect 40-0 season.

The Syracuse, N.Y. native led UConn in scoring in 22 contests, scoring a total of 777 points in her sophomore year. The 2013-14 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Stewart joined Diana Taurasi as the only Huskies to earn Final Four Most Outstanding Player in two years after earning the honor in both 2013 and 2014.
