The American went 8-2 in women's soccer action on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Valerie Sanderson scored twice for Memphis in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Alabama. It was the fifth time Sanderson scored multiple goals in a game, and her sixth career game-winning goal. The Lady Tigers were outshot 15-10, but held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Maryse Bard-Martel made four saves for Memphis.

A first-half goal from Rachel Hill and a late winner from Samantha McGuire helped UConn erase an early deficit in a 2-1 win over Navy. The Midshipmen jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Hill found an equalizer for the Huskies in the 31st minute. The teams played even until late in the contest before McGuire blasted home the game-winner in the 77th minute.

Katy Couperus netted the lone goal of the match to give Cincinnati a 1-0 win over Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. With the victory, the Bearcats move to 2-0 for the first time since 2010. Corner kicks played a big role for the Bearcats, who had a 6-2 advantage, as their lone goal came off a Jae Atkinson corner kick.

Tatiana Coleman helped lift UCF to a 2-1 win over Miami (Fla.) in the Knights season opener on Sunday. UCF stayed unbeaten against the Canes over the last five meetings and remained undefeated on its home turf against its in-state rival since 2005. UCF outshot Miami (Fla.) 18-5, including 9-2 in shots on goal.

Temple defeated Mount St. Mary’s 3-0 in the Owls' home opener at Ambler Sports Complex. Temple scored two goals in the first half as they dominated possession of the ball the entire game. Alyssa Kirk scored the first goal for the Owls two minutes in while DiTaranto scored on a corner kick in the 26th minute. DiTaranto added a second goal in the second half in the 52nd minute.

Jenna Geist scored East Carolina's first goal of the season in the Pirates 1-0 win over Western Carolina. Geist put ECU ahead in the 57th minute as the Pirates outshot the Catamounts 10-7 while owning a 5-1 advantage in corner kick chances.

Freshman Rachel Thun scored her first collegiate goal in Tulsa's 1-0 win over Central Arkansas. The Hurricane led 27-5 in shot attempts, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Houston picked up its first victory of the season as it defeated McNeese State 2-0 in Lake Charles, La. Kayla Walker scored both goals and while Jordan Brown notched her second clean-sheet shutout of the season to lead the Cougars to victory. Houston outshot the Cowgirls 15-8 and landed seven shots on goal to McNeese State's four despite missing four key players due to injuries.
