Four American Athletic Conference Players were honored with Player of the Week accolades for the fifth week of the 2014 women’s soccer season. UCF tallied the majority of the awards with Tatiana Coleman tabbed Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Goalkeeper Connie Organ earned goalkeeper honors and Sophie Howard was named Defensive Player of the Week. SMU received one recognition with freshman Lauren Guerra earning Rookie of the Week accolades.
Coleman had an impressive weekend of action for UCF, leading the Knights past teams that are either ranked or receiving votes in the latest NSCAA poll. Her goal against No. 23/24 Long Beach State was the game-winner and gave UCF their first victory over a Top 25 team since 2012. She assisted on two goals against Ole Miss, including the game-winner, which broke the Rebels three-game winning streak.
Goalkeeper Connie Organ was named Goalkeeper of the Week after she let no shots past her against Long Beach State and Ole Miss. This is Organ’s fourth straight shutout, her fifth on the season.
Continuing on the defensive side for the Knights, senior Sophie Howard claimed the Defensive Player of the Week title. She helped hold Long Beach State to zero shots on goal, playing all minutes in both games. Howard assisted Coleman on the game winner and has guided her team to four straight shutouts.
Guerra has had a major impact in her short career with the Mustangs, earning the Rookie of the Week Honor this week. She led SMU to an overtime win over Gonzaga, scoring both goals for SMU. Guerra’s goals gave the Mustangs their fourth win of the season and her second goal on the year.
