Women’s Soccer Recap: UCF undefeated in conference play; ECU, Memphis pick up first conference wins

Eight teams competed in conference play Sunday while SMU had a non-conference matchup on Saturday.

No. 23/NR UCF won its sixth straight game Sunday against conference opponent Tulsa, 4-1. Kayla Darden scored two goals for the Knights in the second half.

Two goals from Lana Spitler proved to be just what East Carolina needed in its win over Temple at home. This is ECU’s first conference win. Temple’s goalkeeper Shauni Kerkhoff made six saves on the day.

Cincinnati grabbed a win over UConn, with each goal recorded by a different Bearcat. Less than 10 minutes into the game, Laura Rose gave Cincinnati the early lead 1-0. Christi Howard and Katy Couperus added two more goals to make the final score 3-0. This was UConn’s second consecutive conference matchup on the road.

USF and Memphis played a hard fought game in a battle of strong defensive performances. A late goal from Memphis’ Kaitlyn Atkins lead the Tigers to a 1-0 victory. Goalkeepers Thordis Aikman (USF) and Maryse Bard-Martel (Memphis) each recorded three saves a piece.

SMU took on BYU but fell 3-0. The Mustangs had multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to connect.
