Four American Athletic Conference Players were honored with Player of the Week accolades for the sixth week of the 2014 women’s soccer season. East Carolina takes home two awards for Offensive and Goalkeeper Player of the Week. SMU receives their second straight Rookie of the Week and UCF earns Defensive Player of the Week.
                                                                         
East Carolina’s forward Lana Spitler recorded three goals in two home-stand conference matchups to receive Offensive Player of the Week honors. She put ECU ahead early in the second half against RV/NR UConn. The Pirates fell when UConn scored with under 41 seconds left in overtime. On Sunday, Spitler had a big day scoring both goals for ECU over Temple. She is the leading scorer for the Pirates with five goals and has now posted two-back-to-back scoring games.  
 
Erika Lenns also performed well for ECU, seeing time in the net for the injured Saundra Baron. In a heartbreaking overtime loss to UConn, Lenns recorded seven saves. On Sunday, she posted a 2-0 shutout over Temple, her second shutout on the year.
 
SMU has had an impressive lineup of freshmen earning minutes for the Mustangs this season. Freshmen Claire Oates has been recognized as Rookie of the Week, a week after teammate Lauren Guerra received the award. Oates recorded a hat trick in SMU’s 3-2 win over Houston. Each of her three goals for the Mustangs came inside the first fifteen minutes of action. Against BYU on Saturday, Oates put up three shots, leading her team for the day. In both contests, she played all 90 minutes.
 
Senior Carleigh Williams guided her team to two conference victories this week. Williams was part of a defense that only allowed eight shots on goal through both games against Memphis and Tulsa. She played all 90 minutes in both games.
 
Honor Roll
Tatiana Coleman, UCF, F, Sr.
Coleman scored one goal against Memphis, lifting UCF to its first win in Memphis since 2008. In the Knights’ win against Tulsa, she recorded two assists.  
Connie Organ, UCF, GK, Jr.  
Organ played all minutes in two games against Memphis and Tulsa. She had four stops against Memphis and two at Tulsa.
Meghan Brascia, Houston, D, Jr.
Brascia found the top of the net off a free kick against SMU, marking her first career goal for Houston.
Erin Lafferty, Temple, D, Jr.
Lafferty took advantage of a free kick opportunity to score against Cincinnati to eventually lift Temple past the Bearcats, 2-1.    
Samantha McGuire, UConn, F, Jr.
In the 100^th minute, McGuire found the net in overtime to score the game-winner over ECU. This was her fourth goal of the season.
