PROVIDENCE, R.I. – SMU senior Caroline Young and Houston senior Natalie Keck garnered American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, with Young being named Offensive Player of the Week and Keck as Defensive Player of the Week.
Young led the Mustangs to a 3-0 record on the weekend, capped off by a come-from-behind victory over No. 24 Oklahoma Saturday night. SMU trailed 2-0 in the match before storming back to pull off the upset. Young had eight kills in the tide-turning third set of the match vs. the Sooners, including one on the 25
th point for SMU. For the weekend, Young hit .303 with 3.83 kills/set to push the Mustangs’ winning streak to five.
Keck tallied an impressive 6.20 digs/set on the weekend for the Cougars, who went 2-1 on the weekend. Keck had 24 digs in a three-set match against UT Arlington Friday, following it up with a 27-dig performance over just four sets Saturday at McNeese State. For the year, Keck is third in The American with 5.18 digs/set.
