The American Today - Memphis, SMU and Tulane Winners in Sunday Action

Memphis, SMU and Tulane were winners on a Sunday with three American Athletic Conference games.
 
Tulane held off USF 56-51 in overtime in New Orleans to improve to 12-4 and 3-1 in The American. G Louis Dabney led all scorers with 25 points, including six of the Green Wave’s 10 points in the extra session. G Corey Allen Jr. had 13 points to lead the Bulls, who fell to 7-10 and 1-3 in conference play.
 
SMU improved to 3-1 in The American and 12-4 overall with a 70-61 win at UCF. G Nic Moore had a game-high 21 points for the Mustangs, who shot 57.1-percent from the floor in the contest. G B.J. Taylor, G Adonys Henriquez and G Brandon Goodwin each had 11 points for the Knights, who dropped to 8-7 and 1-3 in conference play.
 
Memphis completed a season sweep of Houston with a 62-44 win at Hofheinz Pavilion. F Austin Nichols led the way for the Tigers with 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Memphis improved to 9-6 and 2-2 in conference action with the victory. G Jherrod Stiggers had a team-high 13 points for Houston, which fell to 7-8 and 0-4 in The American.
 
The next American Athletic Conference game will be Tuesday when UConn travels to first-place Tulsa. The Huskies – 9-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play – have won three straight games, while the Golden Hurricane – 10-5 overall and 3-0 in The American – are winners of five in a row and are the last remaining unbeaten team in conference play. Tuesday will be the second meeting in the history of the two programs. UConn won the first meeting 89-68 on Dec. 29, 1978 at the New Haven Coliseum.
