UCF held off Tulane in a triple-overtime battle in Orlando, highlighting Wednesday night’s American Athletic Conference action.
The Knights improved to 9-7 and 2-3 in The American with a 103-100 victory over the Green Wave, which dropped to 12-5 and 3-2 in conference play. UCF G B.J. Taylor led all scorers with 33 points. G Brandon Goodwin added 18 points while playing 50 of 55 minutes. F Staphon Blair had 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win. G Louis Dabney scored 26 to lead Tulane, while G Jay Hook added 25 and G Jonathan Stark chipped in 18 points and 10 assists.
SMU erased a 13-point second-half deficit to win at Temple, 60-55. F Markus Kennedy had 21 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Mustangs, while out-rebounding the Owls 33-23. G Jesse Morgan led the Owls with 15 points. SMU improved to 13-4 and 4-1 in The American, while Temple fell to 12-6 and 3-2 in conference play.
East Carolina picked up its first American Athletic Conference win with a 66-61 victory at home over Houston. G B.J. Tyson had a team-high 16 points for the Pirates, who moved to 8-9 and 1-3 in The American. F Danrad Knowles had 16 points for Houston and G L.J. Rose added 15. The Cougars dropped to 7-9 and 0-5 in league action.
