American Athletic Conference play resumes Saturday with three conference matchups and a key nonconfernce battle on the docket.
Two of the hottest teams in the conference meet at Fifth Third Arena as SMU visits Cincinnati (11 a.m. ET, ESPN2). The Mustangs extended their winning streak to eight games with a 70-49 win against USF in their conference opener Wednesday. Cincinnati is the lone team that has not played an American Athletic Conference game, but the Bearcats have won two in a row following a solid victory at North Carolina State Tuesday.
Tulane and Memphis won their respective conference openers Wednesday, setting the stage for what should be an intriguing matchup Saturday (6 p.m., ESPNU). Tulane is off to a 10-3 overall start after a win against East Carolina Wednesday. The Green Wave will play its fourth straight away from New Orleans with the trip to Memphis, which has won five straight overall. The Tigers have won 22 in a row against Tulane.
East Carolina and USF meet in Tampa Saturday with each team in search of its first conference win (7 p.m., ESPN3). The Pirates saw a five-game homecourt winning streak snapped with the loss to Tulane and look for their first road win of the season. The Bulls look to snap a two-game slide after a conference-opening loss to SMU.
UConn takes a brief respite from conference play as the Huskies head to Gainesville to face Florida (2 p.m. ET, CBS) in a rematch of last year’s Final Four semifinal. The Huskies fell to Temple in overtime in their conference opener Wednesday and come into Saturday’s game at 6-5 overall. The Gators are 7-5 following a heartbreaking loss at Florida State Tuesday.
