The American Today - UConn, Cincinnati Winners Sunday



UConn and Cincinnati picked up victories in Sunday’s American Athletic Conference action.
 
G Ryan Boatright had a career-high 28 points to lift UConn to a 66-53 win over USF at XL Center in Hartford. Boatright was 7-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-5 from outside and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line in the victory, which moved UConn to 11-7 and 4-2 in The American. G Rodney Purvis added 17 points off the bench. G Nehemias Morillo also had a career-best scoring performance for USF, tallying 18 points to go along with three steals and three assists. The Bulls dropped to 7-13 and 1-6 in The American.

Cincinnati’s league-best scoring defense held UCF’s league-leading scoring offense in check as the Bearcats defeated the Knights 56-46 in Orlando. G Kevin Johnson paced the Bearcats with 13 points while F Kasey Wilson led UCF with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Cincinnati improved to 14-5 and 5-2 in The American, while UCF fell to 9-10 and 2-6 in conference play.
 
The next game in The American is Tuesday when Tulsa puts its 7-0 league mark on the line at Tulane (7 p.m., ESPNews.) The Golden Hurricane has not lost to a conference opponent since Feb. 6, 2014 - a streak of 18 in a row. Tulsa would go on to win its final eight regular-season games and three in the Conference USA Championship last season before taking its first seven conference games as a member of The American. The matchup features two of the top five scoring offenses in the league, with Tulane second at 68.6 points per game and Tulsa fifth at 67.0.
