Temple and Tulsa picked up home victories Sunday to improve to 2-0 in American Athletic Conference play.
Temple F Jaylen Bond had 21 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks to lead the Owls to an 84-78 win over UCF at Liacouras Center. G Will Cummings also tallied 21 points for the Owls, who improved to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. G B.J. Taylor had a team-high 21 points for UCF, while G Daiquan Walker added 17 points. The Knights dropped to 7-6 and 0-2 in The American.
Three Tulsa players were in double figures in the Golden Hurricane’s 72-54 victory over Houston. G Shaquille Harrison and G James Woodard were tied with a game-high 18 points while G Rashad Smith chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds for Tulsa, which moved to 9-5 and 2-0 in The American. Houston G Jherrod Stiggers had 17 points to lead the Cougars, who fell to 7-6 and 0-2 in conference action.
League play will continue Tuesday with three games. USF hosts UConn, UCF is at Houston and Cincinnati will host East Carolina.
