Watson and Vogasari Earn Monthly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s tennis honors for the month of September.
        
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Andrew Watson • So. • Memphis
Watson went 2-1 in No. 1 singles play and a perfect 3-0 in doubles action at the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall tournament. The sophomore, who received a No. 58 singles ranking in the Preseason Oracle/ITA Rankings, defeated No. 5 Quentin Monaghan, 6-1, 6-2. The win marked the highest singles victory in the Memphis’s history. Watson also secured a win over Columbia’s Shawn Hadavi, 6-2, 7-6 (5) to round out singles play. In doubles, the Reigate, Great Britain native earned a win against Alabama in No. 2 doubles and added a pair of victories in No. 3 doubles against Columbia and Notre Dame. The Tigers return to action on October 3, when they compete in the prequalifying round of the ITA All-American at the University of Tulsa.  
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Vogasari, who is ranked No. 42 in singles, won three singles matches before Mother Nature washed out the final day of competition at the Rice Invitational. The Athens, Greece, product cruised through the opening round and quarterfinals - defeating Fabienne Gettwart of Sam Houston, and Astrid Gehre of UT-Arlington in straight sets. In the semi-finals Vogasari dropped the middle set but recovered to earn the victory, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-2, and advanced to the championship round. The senior was scheduled to face No. 48 Breaunna Addison of Texas for the No. 1 Singles flight title. Vogasari returns to action for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship, which runs Oct. 6-11 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The full Cougar squad is back on the courts for the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships, to be held Oct. 22-26 in College Station, Texas.
