Lynch, Matakevich, Finch Earn Weekly Football Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the eighth week of the college football season.
 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Paxton Lynch • Jr. • QB • Memphis • Tyler, Texas
Lynch set a school record with 447 passing yards as he completed 32 of 44 passes with four touchdowns in No. 16/16 Memphis’ 66-42 win against Tulsa, extending the Tigers’ winning streak to 14 games. Lynch accounted for five touchdowns in the game as he added a 3-yard rushing score as part of a day in which Memphis amassed a school-record 704 yards of offense. Lynch registered his sixth straight game with at least 300 passing yards and his second 400-yard game of the season.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Matakevich • Sr. • LB • Temple • Stratford, Conn.
Matakevich had a game-high 13 tackles with a sack and an interception as No. 21/22 Temple remained unbeaten with a 24-14 win against East Carolina. Matakevich led an Owl defense that held the Pirates scoreless in the second half, allowing Temple to close the game with 14 unanswered points. Matakevich finished as Temple’s leading scorer for the seventh straight game, making him the only FBS player to lead his team in tackles in every game this season.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sharif Finch • Jr. • DL • Temple • Henrico, Va.
Finch blocked two punts in the fourth quarter and saw both plays lead to touchdowns as No. 21/22 Temple rallied for a 24-14 win against East Carolina. Finch’s first block came with the Owls trailing 14-10, leading to a seven-play drive that gave the Owls the lead. His second block came on East Carolina’s next series, setting the Owls up at the Pirate 15-yard line and leading to a two-play drive to give Temple a 10-point lead.

Completed 26 of 35 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown in a 37-13 win against UConn.

Rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-10 win at UCF.
 
Quinton Flowers • So. • QB • USF • Miami, Fla.
Rushed for a school-record 201 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 97 yards in a 38-14 win against SMU. Set the American Athletic Conference single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
 
Robby Anderson • Sr. • WR • Temple • Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Had eight receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown in a 24-14 win against East Carolina
 
Keyarris Garrett • Sr. • WR • Tulsa • Daingerfield, Texas
Had 14 receptions for an American Athletic Conference-record 268 yards and three touchdowns in a 66-42 loss to No. 16/16 Memphis.
