PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s swimming and diving honors for the week ending Oct. 4.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Sam Straughan • Sr. • SMU
Straughan helped the Mustangs to three of seven event wins at the North Texas Relays against Oklahoma Baptist. The senior anchored a three-man team in the 300 backstroke relay that came from behind to beat the field by .45 seconds. Straughan swam in the first leg of the winning 300 butterfly team and the third leg of the first place 4x100 IM relay team for SMU.

Pitts led the Mustang divers in dual action against Oklahoma Baptist as he posted the top scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Hoch aided SMU in three event wins and a runner-up finish in a five-team field at the North Texas Relays on Oct. 2. The junior transfer led off the first place1500 freestyle team and the winning 400 freestyle team, and anchored the 800 freestyle relay that outpaced the competition by over 13 seconds.

Wainman claimed the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions at the North Texas Relays. In an altered format event, the sophomore teamed up with teammate Lauren Lamb to defeat the five-team field.
