The American, which had three teams in last week’s initial rankings, saw Navy enter the top 25 this week on the heels of the Midshipmen’s 45-20 win at Memphis last Saturday. Navy is the highest-ranked of the four American Athletic Conference teams at No. 20. The Midshipmen, whose only loss came on the road to Notre Dame, take a 7-1 record into Saturday’s game against SMU.

Memphis, which saw its school-record 15-game winning streak snapped by Navy, is ranked No. 21 by the CFP. The Tigers, who are 18-3 in the past two seasons, visit unbeaten Houston Saturday. Memphis is 4-0 in road games this season.

Temple remains at No. 22 in the CFP rankings. The Owls are 8-1 on the season, with the lone loss a 24-20 setback to Notre Dame. Temple has five road wins to its credit and scored an Opening Day win against a Penn State squad that has a 7-2 record.

Houston was ranked No. 24 by the committee. One of six unbeaten teams remaining in FBS (9-0) Cougars take a 10-game winning streak into Saturday’s showdown against Memphis. Houston, which leads the nation in turnover margin (+16), has four road victories in 2015.

With the four teams in this week’s CFP rankings, 10 of The American’s 12 teams have been ranked in the top 25 of either the College Football Playoff or Bowl Championship Series rankings since the start of the 2008 season.

Since the formation of the American Athletic Conference, six schools – UCF, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Navy and Temple – have been ranked by either the College Football Playoff or Bowl Championship Series.
