UConn Upends USF, 2-1, to Advance to Men's Soccer Championship Final

TAMPA, FLA. – No. 3 UConn defeated No. 2 USF, 2-1, in the American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship semifinals Friday evening at Corbett Stadium. The Huskies advanced to the championship game with the victory and will face fourth-seeded Tulsa on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPNU.

Nazeem Bartman scored the lone goal for the Bulls in the 78th minute. The tally was the eighth goal of the season for Bartman, a team-high.

After a scoreless first half, the Huskies (9-5-5) took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute as Sebastian Brems scored on an assist from Moustapha Samb.

USF (11-5-3) surrendered another tally in the 57th minute, as Abdou Mbacke Thiam scored from 30 yards out to put the Huskies up by two. Bartman narrowed the UConn lead with his unassisted goal with 12 minutes left in regulation.

The Bulls held a 15-10 advantage in shots and tied UConn 3-3 in corner kicks. Husky keeper Scott Levene made a season-high seven saves for UConn, while USF’s Spasoje Stefanovic finished with three saves. 

Bartman had a game-high five shots for the Bulls, two of which were on goal. Brems and Thiam had three shot attempts apiece for UConn.
