Williams and Thomas Claim Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Nov. 16.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Williams • Sr. • G • USF
Williams averaged 30 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for USF in the Preseason WNIT. The native of Folkston, Ga., opened the season with 34 points on 14-of-28 shooting and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Bulls to a 74-52 win against Jacksonville on Friday. Williams followed with 26 points, five rebounds and four assists in a victory over Drexel, 73-58. The win against the Dragons advanced USF to the semifinals of the Preseason WNIT. The Bulls will face the winner of No. 5 Baylor and Southern Miss on Thursday, Nov. 19.    
 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Dai’ja Thomas • Fr. • F • SMU
Thomas produced 12 points and nine rebounds in the Mustangs’ 74-36 win against Northwestern State. The freshman forward shot 66.7 percent from the floor and was perfect in four attempts from the charity stripe in 21 minutes of action. SMU continues play on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when the Mustangs host TCU at 8 p.m. ET.

Named the Islanders Classic Most Outstanding Player after averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, five assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of victories for the Pirates.
 
Feyonda Fitzgerald • Jr. • G • Temple
Registered a career-high 32 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and three steals to lead Temple to a 97-91 win over Florida on Saturday.
 
Leslie Vorpahl • Jr. • G • Tulane
Led the Green Wave with 14 points while going 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the 69-53 defeat of Little Rock. She added three assists and just as many steals in the win on Friday.
