The American Today: Payne Eclipses 1,500 Career Points in East Carolina Win

East Carolina 68, Delaware 58
East Carolina defeated Delaware, 68-58, to improve to 5-0 on the season. Senior Jada Payne recorded her third straight double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds. Payne eclipsed the 1,500-point milestone in the win. I’Tiana Taylor recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Khadidja Toure produced a career-high 18 points, including 5-for-7 from behind the arc. The Pirates limited the Blue Hens to 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) from the 3-point range.  
 
RV/NR Rutgers 61, Temple 51
Temple fell to RV/NR Rutgers on Sunday afternoon, 61-51. Junior Feyonda Fitzgerald scored 27 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists while Alliya Butts recorded 18 points and five rebounds. Fitzgerald and Butts accounted for all but six of the Owl’s points.   
 
Memphis 57, Georgetown 53
Memphis captured a non-conference win against Georgetown, 57-53. Asianna Fuqua-Bey recorded a team-high 16 points and reeled in eight rebounds. Brianna Wright produced a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Taylor Williams chipped in 10 points. The Tigers earn their first 3-0 start since the 2011-12 season.
 
Houston 52, Louisiana-Lafayette 51
Houston held off Louisiana-Lafayette, 52-51, on Sunday. Freshman Seritha Hawkins led the Cougars with 14 points and eight rebounds. Marche Amerson, who sank the go-ahead 3-pointer down the stretch, finished with 10 points while Alecia Smith distributed seven assists. Houston limited a Ragin Cajun team, who entered the contest averaging 81.5 points per game, to only 51 points on 39.6 percent shooting.
