DALLAS – After 102 scoreless minutes, No. 2 USF claimed a 1-0 double overtime victory against No. 3 UCF to advance to Sunday’s conference final.
Junior forward Leticia Skeete netted the game-winner off a corner kick from senior Cristina Ferral. The goal marked Skeete’s seventh of the season.
The Bulls outshot the Knights 28-9, and 12-3 shots on goal. USF’s Ferral notched six shots with three on goal, followed by senior Olivia Chance and junior Trudi Carter each with five shots; Carter with three on goal. UCF junior Carol Rodrigues and senior Ashley Spivey both tallied two shots with one on goal.
Sophomore Kat Elliot tallied three saves in net for the Bulls, recording her league-best 10th shutout of the season.
Vera Varis, the Knights’ freshman goalie, registered 10 saves in the match.
USF will compete in the American Athletic Conference title game for the second consecutive year and will face No. 4 Cincinnati on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT. The Bearcats upended top-seeded UConn 3-2 in overtime to advance to the final. The championship will be aired live on ESPN 3/WatchESPN, with a tape delay at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship is being held at Westcott Field on the SMU campus in Dallas.
