East Carolina and Temple defended their home courts with victories Tuesday night in American Athletic Conference play.
East Carolina scored 43 second-half points, shooting 66.7-percent in the second half en route to a 64-53 win over Memphis. G B.J. Tyson scored 23 points on 10-of-14 from the floor as the Pirates improved to 11-13 and 4-7 in The American. F Shaq Goodwin and F Nick King each had 13 points for Memphis.
Temple won its sixth-straight game, downing Cincinnati 75-59 at Liacouras Center to move to 18-7 and 9-3 in The American. G Will Cummings led all scorers with 21 points, while F Jaylen Bond added 16 and G Jesse Morgan chipped in 12. The Owls are now 12-3 over their last 15 games. G Farad Cobb had 13 points to lead the Bearcats.
A Sunshine State showdown is the lone game on Wednesday’s schedule as UCF plays host to in-state foe USF (7 p.m., ESPNews.) Wednesday is the first of two meetings between the two closest schools geographically in The American. The game features two of the top seven scorers in the conference, with USF G Corey Allen Jr. second at 15.5 points per game and UCF G B.J. Taylor seventh (13.8 ppg.)
