Lowery, Weigel Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 15.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Luke Lowery • Jr. • C/1B/DH • East Carolina
Lowery hit .500 (9-for-18) with four home runs and 13 runs batted in during a 4-1 week for the Pirates. The junior from Midlothian, Virginia, homered in all three games of a weekend sweep of Elon while driving in three or more runs in each game. The week’s performance was punctuated by a grand slam against the Phoenix Sunday that capped a five-RBI day. Lowery leads The American with eight home runs and is second in the conference with 25 runs batted in.

Patrick Weigel • Jr. • RHP • Houston
Weigel entered in relief in the second inning of Saturday’s game against Buffalo trailing 3-1. The junior from Ventura, California, was masterful the rest of the way, as he held the Bulls to no runs on one hit and striking out 11 over 7.1 innings as the No. 24 Cougars defeated the Bulls 9-3. Weigel caught the batter looking on five of the 11 punchouts. For the year, Weigel is 2-0 with a 1.83 earned run average in six appearances (one start) and 22 strikeouts against six walks.
