The American Today - Tulsa Falls to Murray State in NIT Second Round

Tulsa’s season came to a close in the second round of the NIT Monday night.
 
Tulsa fell 83-62 to Murray State at Reynolds Center to end the year at 23-11. G Shaquille Harrison had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Hurricane while G Rashad Ray chipped in 14 points. Tulsa forced 20 Murray State turnovers in the contest and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds. The 23 wins were the most for the Golden Hurricane since 2009-10, a campaign in which Tulsa also tallied 23 victories.
 
Temple is the lone remaining team from The American in postseason play, as the Owls will host Louisiana Tech Wednesday night in NIT quarterfinal action at Liacouras Center (9 p.m., ESPN2). With a victory, Temple would advance to the NIT semifinals next week at Madison Square Garden.
 
Wednesday marks the second meeting of the year between the Owls and Bulldogs. Temple took the previous meeting 82-75 Nov. 17 at Liacouras Center behind 20 points each from G Will Cummings and G Quenton DeCosey. Louisiana Tech G and Conference USA Player of the Year Kenneth “Speedy” Smith had eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the first meeting. Despite this being the second matchup of the year, the two teams had never met prior to this season.
