Putnam, Cross Earn Weekly Baseball Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending March 29.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Buddy Putnam • Sr. • 1B • USF
Putnam hit .438 (7-for-16) with four home runs and 10 runs batted in during a 4-0 week for the Bulls, who sit atop the conference standings at 3-0 following a sweep of Cincinnati. The Bartow, Florida, native hit two home runs and had a game-tying RBI double in the ninth and scored the go-ahead run during USF’s 8-7 comeback win at FGCU Tuesday. Putnam followed that Sunday with a two-homer, seven-RBI performance against Cincinnati that included a grand slam. For the year, Putnam has six home runs – tied for fifth in the conference – and 20 runs batted in.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Carson Cross • R-Sr. • RHP • UConn
Cross is Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season after his performance Friday night at Tulane. The Brentwood, New Hampshire, native tossed seven shutout innings in a 6-0 UConn win that opened a series win for the Huskies in New Orleans. For the year, Cross is 6-1 with a 1.49 ERA, .178 opposing batting average and 65 strikeouts against 12 walks.
