The American Today: East Carolina Earns Series Win Over Memphis

No. 18/19 UCF posted its second American Athletic Conference series sweep of the season after defeating UConn 6-1 Sunday morning at UCF Softball Complex. Senior Mackenzie Audas tossed a one-hitter in four innings for the Knights. She struck out seven batters to earn her 71st career win, tying the UCF Softball record. Senior Emily O'Donnell extended her team-best reached base streak to eight for UConn while Lexi Gifford recorded her seventh career home run in the loss.

East Carolina 3, Memphis 1 (8)

Abby Wynne had her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in East Carolina's 3-1 (8 inn.) win over Memphis on Sunday. The victory marks the 10th of the year for the Pirates as they improve to 10-26 on the season and 2-4 in American Athletic Conference action. The Tigers fell to 12-17 overall and 1-5 in league play with the loss. East Carolina defeated Memphis in extra-innings to win the series as they took two out of three games from their conference foes. The victory also marked the first time ECU recorded back-to-back wins since February 8. With two outs in the eighth inning, Wynne hit the eventual game-winning shot over the leftfield wall to put the Pirates up 3-1.

Tulsa 1, USF 0

Senior catcher Erica Sampson hit a solo home run and junior Caitlin Sill pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Tulsa to a 1-0 win over USF Sunday afternoon at USF Softball Stadium. Sampson hit her sixth homer of the season in the third inning, and Sill kept the Bulls scoreless to help the Golden Hurricane (21-12, 4-2 American) win the finale and avoid the series sweep. Sill (6-6) rebounded to earn the victory Sunday after taking both losses on Saturday. She struck out three batters and allowed six hits and two walks.The Bulls were shutout for only the third time this season.
