PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending Mar. 29.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Karla Claudio * P/UTL * Sr. * USF
Claudio had timely hits for USF over the weekend to give the Bulls the series win over Tulsa. The senior hit a game-tying grand slam in the seventh inning in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader (Bulls were down 7-1 going into the inning) to send the game to extra frames. Claudio later hit a pair of homers in the nightcap, including a walk-off in the seventh, to give the Bulls their second comeback win of the day. She finished with nine RBIs over three games and recorded a 1.333 slugging percentage.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Turnier * Jr. * UCF
Turnier threw a no-hitter for the second time this season in Saturday’s opening game-win over UConn. The junior no-hit an opponent for the third time in her career in the 2-1 win over the Huskies and pitched two complete games over the week which included a win at NR/NR Florida Atlantic. Turnier also picked up two saves over the weekend, posted a 0.00 earned run average and fanned 30 batters over 19 innings of action.
