East Carolina won for the fifth time in its last six games, highlighting Wednesday night’s action in The American.
2B Charlie Yorgen drove in a pair of runs and C Travis Watkins had three hits as East Carolina improved to 6-5 with a 9-7 win over Old Dominion. The Pirates scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth for the victory.
USF jumped out to a 3-0 lead at No. 21/19 Florida State, but fell 7-3 to the Seminoles in Tallahassee, Florida. SS Kyle Teaf had two hits and an RBI for the Bulls, who fell to 6-6-1.
No. 13/14 UCF fell to No. 4/2 Florida 10-2 to split a midweek series with the Gators. SS Dylan Moore and LF Eugene Vazquez hit solo homers for the two Knights runs. UCF dropped to 11-2 on the year with the defeat.
All eight teams will be in action Friday, including one team playing a top-five opponent.
No. 8/13 Houston takes on No. 2/5 LSU at Minute Maid Park to open the Houston College Classic. The game will be on ESPN3 and ROOT Sports Southwest.
UCF hosts Columbia to open a three-game series. The Lions split a four-game series with Houston last weekend.
Cincinnati opens up the home portion of its schedule – originally slated to begin with a midweek game against Xavier – by hosting Niagara for a three-game series.
East Carolina will also host a team from the MAAC, as Monmouth comes to Greenville for a three-game set. The Pirates have played all but one game at Clark-LeClair Stadium so far this year.
UConn – coming off a series win at then-No. 21 Kennesaw State – heads South again to face FIU for a three-game set in Miami. Friday’s first pitch has been pushed back to 7 p.m.
Tulane – ranked this week in the NCBWA and D1 Baseball polls – hosts Gonzaga to begin a three-game series.
Memphis will host Samford to begin a three-game weekend series. The Bulldogs played a challenging slate last weekend with two games against Arizona and two against No. 9/7 Mississippi State.
