Houston’s Shrum, USF’s Claudio Take Weekly Softball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending Mar. 8.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julana Shrum * P/DP * Jr. * Houston
Shrum paced Houston to a 5-2 mark last week and had strong offensive outings over the seven games, tallying five home runs, 14 RBIs, 10 hits and seven runs with a 1.136 slugging percentage. The junior had a pair of home runs in a 12-5 win over Houston Baptist on March 3 before hitting a grand slam in the second game of the doubleheader vs. the Huskies. During action at the UNLV Rebel Classic, she had a HR vs. Eastern Kentucky and another one against Iowa State.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Karla Claudio * Sr. * USF
Claudio pitched 17.2 innings last week and gave up just one earned run and one walk while striking out 24 batters. The senior posted three saves last week and tied for the team lead with two wins. The Bulls went an undefeated 7-0 during action last week that included midweek games vs. Maine, Boston College and Wagner and a 4-0 mark at the Under Armour Showcase.

Was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases last week, needs three to tie UCF’s record; also drew five walks
